Call for Papers: Communication and Aging: Challenges and Opportunities for Older Women

The Journal of Women & Aging is seeking papers for a special issue of articles that will focus on aging and communication. Specifically, the special issue will explore the use of communication strategies that inform and influence individual and community decisions for enhancing older women’s well-being. Original epidemiologic, research and evaluation articles (qualitative or quantitative or mixed methods), secondary data analyses, and systematic/scoping reviews are invited. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: the role of mass communications as well as media portrayal of older adults, communication between healthcare professionals, caregivers, and older women; new communication technologies for aging populations; changes in communication with age; attitudes about aging and interpersonal communication; intergenerational communication; organizational communication; communications policy; and so on. Potential authors should visit the Journal’s website (https://www.tandfonline.com/loi/wjwa20) to review the Instructions for Authors and specific guidelines for the various types of manuscripts. Importantly, submissions must include a cover letter formatted as requested in the instructions for authors.

The first step in the review process will be submission of a 250-word abstract to Daniela Friedman, associate editor, via email at dbfriedman@nullsc.edu by September 3, 2019, 11 pm EDT. Authors will find out by September 15, 2019 if they will be asked for a full manuscript that will need to be submitted November 1, 2019. Manuscripts should be submitted via the online submission system at https://www.editorialmanager.com/jwa/default.aspx with an indication that they are intended for the Communication and Aging: Challenges and Opportunities for Older Women special issue.  Revised, final manuscripts selected will need to be accepted and ready for publication by February 28, 2020.  For additional information about this special collection of articles, please contact Daniela Friedman, associate editor, at dbfriedman@nullsc.edu.
