In this week’s Scientist Highlights, we feature Luciana Mascarenhas Fonseca, PhD, who became an AD-NAD RCMAR Scientist in 2020. Dr. Fonseca’s RCMAR pilot project is “Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) findings associated with Intraindividual Cognitive Variability in Aging American Indians: insights on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia (ADRD)”. The study is particularly novel as it is the first to investigate intraindividual cognitive variability and neuroimaging in American Indians and may help to identify cognitive noninvasive markers of neurodegeneration in this population. She will be presenting her research at AAIC 2022. Her poster title is “Intraindividual variability of cognitive performance and associations with magnetic resonance imaging in aging American Indians: Data from the Strong Heart Study”. She also plans to submit an R03 proposal to NIH to study longitudinal associations related to this preliminary data.
