We at the Coordinating Center are deeply saddened about the passing of Dr. James S. Jackson, one of the founding RCMAR Directors, MCUAAAR Co-PI, and a giant in the field of black aging research. Most importantly he was a mentor to generations of minority scientists some of which have now become Deans, Associate Provosts, Department Chairs, Endowed Professors and leaders in their fields of study. During our 2017 RCMAR Annual Meeting, Dr. Jackson’s career was celebrated and he was awarded with a certificate from the National Institute on Aging (video below) in “recognition of outstanding service in advancing the mission of the National Institute on Aging and the Resource Centers for Minority Aging Research.”
