Dr. Frazier is an assistant professor of Sociology and Demography at Pennsylvania State University in the Department of Sociology and Criminology. Before arriving at Penn State, she earned her Ph.D. in Sociology at Vanderbilt University, followed by postdoctoral training at Duke University’s Duke Aging Center. She also holds master’s degrees in Anthropology and Public Health. In her research, she uses stress theory, the ecological model of health, and life course and biopsychosocial frameworks to examine health and well-being among older adults. Cleothia is particularly interested in investigating the social determinants of aging among older Black Americans. Her research examines how stress exposure, work, and the neighborhood environment affect the aging process and health outcomes related to sleep, mental health, and cognition. Finally, her research examines how culture and cultural artifacts affect perceptions of family, health, aging, and biomedicine in the United States.
