Dr. Eduardo Cabrero-Castro is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) and a Visiting Scholar at the PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center at UTMB. Previously, he served as Head of the Health Economics Division at the Mexican Institute of Social Security, as well as Deputy Director of Childhood Cancer and Deputy Director of Patient Safety at the Mexican Ministry of Health. He holds a PhD in Healthcare Management and Policy from the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
Dr. Cabrero’s research focuses on aging, cognitive function, and the sociodemographic factors that influence cognitive impairment, cognitive decline, and dementia in older adults. Leveraging data from large national surveys, including the Mexican Health and Aging Study (MHAS), he examines these issues from a life-course perspective, with particular emphasis on how early-life conditions, healthcare access, and socioeconomic disparities shape cognitive trajectories across the lifespan. His work has resulted in several peer-reviewed manuscripts, conference presentations, and book chapters.
Dr. Cabrero’s RCMAR project, titled “Predictive Modeling of Cognitive Aging: A Cross-Cultural Analysis Using Machine Learning Techniques,” involves the development of machine learning-based predictive models to better understand cognitive decline and dementia in diverse cultural contexts. By integrating life-course factors, his work aims to contribute to innovative solutions in geriatric cognitive care and improve the quality of life for older adults.
