In this week’s Scientist Highlights, we feature Saruna Ghimire, PhD, who became an Asian-RCMAR Scientist in 2021. Dr. Ghimire’s RCMAR pilot project is “Exploring the associations between religious coping, resiliency, and social support and the physical and mental health of Bhutanese refugee older adults in Ohio”. Dr. Ghimire leverages her background in public health and prolific research portfolio in global aging to teach epidemiology and global aging courses at Miami. Her research focuses on health and well-being in later life, including understanding the social determinants of healthy aging among diverse communities. She has ongoing research projects in Nepal, facilitated by well-established collaborations with researchers from several Nepali institutions. She also regularly works with researchers from the University of South Wales, Australia, and BRAC University in Bangladesh. Recent projects focus on the health of older Bhutanese refugees in Ohio and Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.
