Mission
The RCMAR program supports behavioral and social research on aging, health disparities in older adults, and Alzheimer’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease–Related Dementias (AD/ADRD) through the development of research infrastructure and the mentorship of early career scientists from diverse backgrounds, including, but not limited to, individuals from racial and ethnic groups underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral research, individuals with disabilities, and women.
Structure
The RCMAR National Coordinating Center housed at the Gerontological Society of America coordinates transnational activities across the 18 currently funded RCMAR centers.
Centers
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) funds 18 RCMAR Centers across the United States. The primary objective of the RCMAR VI program (2023–2028) is twofold:
Advisory Boards
The RCMAR National Coordinating Center External Advisory Board is composed of multidisciplinary nationally recognized leaders in aging research. The External Advisory Board provides input on National Coordinating Center strategies, aids in the decision making of how to address emerging trends in minority aging health issues that impact new research, and reviews proposals for the Minority Serving Institution Fellows Program and National Coordinating Center Pilot Grants.
